SKILLS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

As a young adult, your child’s life in the secondary programme will see them begin to choose interests they will continue to pursue for years to come. With a broad range of programmes in music, science, arts and language, SBS allows them to blossom in their chosen fields, while also preparing them for the important benchmarks that will determine their university education.

As your child grows, the breadth and quality of our facilities becomes increasingly important to their development, be it our state-of-the art science labs, Olympic-sized swimming pool, advanced Information Technology equipment or well-stocked library.

HOLISTIC LEARNING

Our world-class facilities and speciality programmes constitute the perfect environment for the advanced pursuit of process-based learning. Despite looming exams, our secondary programme remains firmly focused on developing your child into a happy and holistic being with a deep thirst for knowledge.

PATH TO TOP UNIVERSITIES

SBS meets Thailand’s academic standards, develops bilingual students and follows the curriculum content for Cambridge’s IGCSE. This approach allows your child to pursue a bright future in Thailand’s top national universities or attend a leading university abroad. Beyond SBS, bilingualism and experiential learning remain the best guarantee your child won’t just get into the right school, they will also thrive in their university education and beyond.

GREATER SELF-CONTROL AND FOCUS

“The school taught me how to think when under pressure. I just won the Krasae Tennis Camp competition and I want to go pro when I grow up.”
-Taentawan Taddeo Majoli Magglioli, 13

MORE CHOICES IN BOTH CULTURES

“Before coming to SBS, I couldn’t speak Thai, since my mom is Spanish and my dad is from Hong Kong. Now, I’ve been a member of Opera Siam for ten years and it’s becoming a career. At SBS, you can make your own choices, like being able to choose a music track.”
-Thalassa Ferrand, 15

A COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT

“I like that we speak multiple languages here. I’m very close to my friends but also to the teachers. SBS really supported me in my go-kart racing and I placed second in the T-Kart Mini World Championship.”
Jakkarin Sirinonthanawech, 16

INCREASED CONFIDENCE

“I was a shy kid but growing up with a lot of activities taught me to be more self-assured. Now I’m confident in my English and singing skills. Last year, I won the My Achievement Singing Contest and, this year, I was runner-up. I’m also on a science and math track, so I’ll be able to choose anything I want later, from medicine to music.”
-Juthaporn Rungpiti, 15

READY FOR CHANGE

SBS is a strong preparatory school for not only university but also, more importantly, for life

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

With SBS, your child is ready for the best of both worlds

  • Access to a top university in Thailand
  • The option to move abroad to study or work

Either way, your child is prepared for a bright future in a changing world.

HOLISTIC INDIVIDUALS

“I’m studying mechanical engineering at Midwestern State University in Texas, and my high GPA was key to getting scholarships to pay for it. I also got an athletic scholarship, and the teachers at SBS really supported me whenever I’d miss class due to a golf tournament. This month, I’m competing in a qualifier for the Thai LPGA where my sister and I will be playing alongside pros.”
-Panisara Chimsuti, 19

OPTIONS TO STUDY HERE OR ABROAD

“Studying at SBS gives you more options because of the bilingual programme. You can study in a Thai university or abroad–it’s up to you. Currently, I’m in Rangsit’s bilingual medicine programme and also in a medical internship programme with Rajavithi Hospital.”
-Nattaya Wangsupkitkosol, 21

RESULTS YOU CAN COUNT ON

  • Placement in the top three national universities
  • Higher proficiency scores in both Thai and English
  • Higher academic scores than the national average

HIGHER RESULTS THAN NATIONAL AVERAGE

“I’m going to study business finance at Hawaii Pacific University. We started studying at SBS when we were eight years old and the school has been so supportive. I’m also getting both athletic and academic scholarships to cover my tuition, living costs and tournament expenses. SBS has really helped me get where I am.”
-Pranisa Chimsuti, 19

READY FOR A GLOBAL WORKPLACE

“I’m studying art and design communication and I’m starting an internship with Wallpaper Magazine, next month. Getting a bilingual education has helped me in so many ways. If I’d gone to a Thai school I’d have difficulties at uni. Sometimes, I have tohelp my Thai friends, actually. But having been at SBS, I really understand both worlds—Thailand, and the West.”
-Schwin Suthisuvan, 21

ACCESS TO RANGSIT UNIVERSITY

“Compared to a Thai school, it’s just so much easier to get into Rangsit University’s pharmacology programme coming from SBS.”
-Apinan Watcharaphicart, 21

STRONGER ABILITY TO ADAPT TO OTHER CULTURES

“Studying at SBS helped me learn other languages as well. I was in the Chinese and English programme and went on to study medical science at the Zhejiang University School of Medicine, in China. Studying in a bilingual programme prepared me for living abroad and speaking with people from other countries. I was very lucky to study at SBS. It was the first step to developing a good future.”
-Tipousa Chuaysai, 25

Good schools deliver a solid basic education. Great schools also prepare you for change.

STRONG LANGUAGE AND THINKING SKILLS

“In a couple of months, I’ll be starting med school at Chulalongkorn University. Getting in was one of the hardest things I’ve accomplished. But I made it, and the high scores I got in English definitely helped make it possible.”
-Naphon Upanisakorn, 18

SBS Pathway to Success

SBS is proud to announce the modernization to both our Cambridge International Programme as well as our Bilingual Programme. The improvements will ensure that our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully complete their University studies and are future leaders in the 21st century workforce.

Cambridge International Programme

The Cambridge International Programme will be made available to our students from an early age, ensuring that our students are better prepared for both National and International University entrances.

SBS students, that meet the criteria, are able to select the Cambridge International Programme at the start of Secondary One. Students will continue with the Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme, focusing mainly on Cambridge English Language, Cambridge Mathematics, Cambridge Computer Science and Cambridge Combined Sciences throughout their Secondary One studies.

Students will start their Cambridge IGCSE studies in Secondary Two and continue with the Cambridge IGCSE course until the end of their Secondary Three studies. The students will focus on the following subjects whilst studying the Cambridge IGCSE course: Cambridge IGCSE English as a First/Second Language, Cambridge IGCSE Thai as a First Language, Cambridge IGCSE Biology, Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry, Cambridge IGCSE Physics, Cambridge IGCSE Combined Sciences, Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences, Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies and Cambridge IGCSE Computer Sciences.

At the end of Secondary Three, our students will complete their IGCSE studies as well as their PSAT (Pre-SAT) exams. The PSAT exams ensure that our students are prepared for the SAT exams at the end of their Secondary Four studies.

Our Cambridge International students will start their Cambridge AS-Levels in Secondary Four, where they select three subjects which they will focus on for the next 3 years of their studies. The three subjects selections are aligned with their future studies at Universities.

Students will select three out of the six Cambridge A/AS-Levels subjects we offer: A/AS-Level Biology, A/AS-Level Chemistry, A/AS-Level Physics, A/AS-Level English Language, A/AS-Level Mathematics and A/AS-Level Business Studies.

At the end of Secondary Four, our students would have completed their Cambridge IGCSE, PSAT, Cambridge AS-Levels, SAT as well as their IELTS examinations.

The above will allow our students to enter Universities abroad, on the basis that they complete one year of “Foundation Studies”.

The “Foundation” year is a one year course that students complete before entering Universities abroad.

Please note, if students wish to “Fast Track” and enter the foundation year abroad, they are not eligible for a Mathayom Six transcript.

If students wish to continue their studies with SBS, they will start their Cambridge A-Levels at the beginning of Secondary Five. The next two years will see our students complete their A-Level studies and also having the opportunity to improve on their previous AS-Level, SAT and IELTS exam results.

During their final year studies, our students will experience an Internship program, giving them the work experience they need to be better prepared for their future studies.

If our Cambridge International students complete their Cambridge A-Level studies with SBS, then there is no need for a foundation year. Students are able to enter Universities abroad, without having to complete the one year of “Foundation Studies”. Students will meet all the Cambridge International standards as well as the Thai Ministry of Education standards. Allowing our students to enter Top Tier Universities around the world, including leading Universities in Thailand.

SBS Bilingual Tracks

The Bilingual program will allow students to choose their “Track of Study” at the start of Secondary Four, giving them a head start to their future Tertiary Studies. Below is a short description of our New and Innovative Bilingual Tracks:

IGCSE-A/AS LEVELS

INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION – ADVANCED LEVEL (IGCSE-A/AS LEVELS)

CAMBRIDGE A LEVELS

The A Level (Advanced Level) (Year 12 / M6) is a subject-based qualification conferred as part of the General Certificate of Education. A Level qualification is generally required for university entrance.

A Levels are worked towards after completion of IGCSE’s (Year 10 / M4) over two years and split into two parts, with one part studied in each year. The first part is known as the Advanced Subsidiary Level, A1 Level or AS Level. The second part is known as the A2 Level and is more in depth and academically rigorous than the A1 Level.

The AS Level is a qualification in its own right and the AS Level combined with the A2 Level forms the complete A Level qualification, with the exception of linear qualifications in which all of the A Level marks are obtained from exams taken in the second year.

WORLDWIDE RECOGNITION

A Levels are the secondary school leaving qualification offered in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Cambridge International AS and A Levels are equivalent to the AS and A Levels taken by learners in the UK, and are accepted for entrance to UK universities.

The Lisbon Convention (an international agreement signed by 50 countries and international organisations, including the European Union, USA, Australia, Canada, Israel and New Zealand) facilitates the recognises the IGCSE-A Level as a pre-university qualification.

Course Purpose

This course is an intensive, hands-on, problem-based learning module which will allow students to shape their own directions of inquiry while developing valuable life skills as researchers, designer/developers, and budding entrepreneurs.

The most valuable skill a young person could possess in the twenty-first century is the ability to learn, un-learn, and re-learn a variety of professional skills, cognitive flexibility. Organizations around the globe contend with the dynamics of a constantly changing world that is developing new technologies, products, and services faster than consumers can adapt. This is the pace of innovation and competition today. Whether a student wants to pursue a path of social innovation or a commercial career path they must possess the skills necessary to gather data, synthesize data, and turn this data in viable product or service concepts which are desired by their intended consumers. This begins with developing an empathetic understanding of their consumer/user group.

DESIGN THINKING begins with mixed methodology research, a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods will be used to investigate areas of interest selected by the students. Students will move from product category, to users and observational analysis into synthesis, concept generation, and concept testing, finishing with a final presentation (slide show).

Course Objectives

This course presents an introductory approach to DESIGN THINKING. Students who complete this course will be able to understand user/consumer groups, synthesize research into creative concepts and test those concepts in the marketplace.

  1. Engagement, this intensive fast-paced workshop is designed to create an awareness of the twenty-first century professional. Engaged with their consumer groups, colleagues, and society as a whole
  2. Responsibility, students will work to further understand both accountability and responsibility, how to put what might be emotional impulses aside for the greater good of their particular project.
  3. Confidence, once students go through the Design Thinking framework they will posses a new knowledge and experience greater confidence, the goal is to learn to embrace “failure” and accept it is a healthy part of the process
  4. Innovative, Design Thinking is a world recognized innovation framework, this intensive hands-on workshop will walk students through the process in a step-by-step manner
  5. Reflective, students will work to develop an empathetic level understanding of their users, understand their role as a team-member with their working group and end the workshop with a reflective practice exercise on all that has been practiced and learned

Course Description

Six ten-hour days make up this intensive hands-on problem based learning module where students will earn three college credits (Rangsit University) and develop as engaged, responsible, innovative, confident, reflective young adults.

Understand and empathize, is phase one where students learn mixed methodology research practices aimed to help them thrive in the competitive landscape.

Define and synthesize, helps students make sense of their research data and for the purpose of turning out meaningful creative concepts which could be products, services, marketing, or even socio-political campaigns.

Ideate and create, will give students professional level experience generating ideas, rating and ranking ideas, and down selecting ideas to meet the needs of their intended users.

Prototype, students will learn how to quickly turn their ideas into simple concept models which can be tested for learning with their users.

Test, a variety of methods for user testing, collecting feedback and refining prototypes into robust marketable solutions. Whether it is a physical or virtual product, a service, a marketing campaign, or a socio- political call to action your Design Thinking goals can be realized in this class.

Numeric Analysis, communication, and information technology skills:

  1. Email, shared cloud space, file organization
